Micro-Credit Game Bangladesh

Background on Micro-Credit Game Bangladesh In Bangladesh Grameen Bank is working for several years now with an innovative concept for local development: provision of small loans to the poorest citizens to enable them to take development in their own hands. Micro-credit has proved, under certain conditions and circumstances, to be an effective tool to realise social and economic development. In many development projects this has already been proved, and the application of micro-credit programmes is still growing, both in developing and in developed countries. Because of increasing interest in micro-credit, Facilicom Consult has developed a game, which brings participants to a simulation of Bangladesh. They form a group of local women who start their own businesses so that they can cover the living costs of their families. A credit officer of a local organisation is guiding them in this process. In 3.5 hours of playing many aspects of providing and repaying small loans are being considered such as making a business plan, the credit system and mutual relations between the participating women. At the end of the game the participants reflect at the successes and failures, which can determine in reality the continuation of small-scale businesses. In addition, participants will receive more background information about micro-credit systems.

Purpose of this game
The purpose of the game is to learn how a credit system can work and how it can improve the personal economic and social circumstances of the people and families involved. The game provides insight in the group process when the loans are provided and repaid.
